I will update this tree again next spring when it’s next burst of growth comes through, and will also be attempting an air layering at the base of this tree,
The ground layer seems like a good idea. There is a nice flare at the base, but the nebari is a bit of a mess. Do you have any plans for the big chop?
Yeah the lower half of the nebari is a terribble mess. I’m going to start the air layer in spring after the flush of new growth hardens and chop it all the way up to where the very top of the roots just start and place a big tile back under it so the roots grow outwards when I repot it.
The shoot at the top of the tree will grow out to be taller aswell and more branches will come in. I’m going to hide the big chop at the top of the tree so it should be exciting to see how it turns out 🙂
Regards,
James
